Divemaster already? Looking for an Instructor Internship?

Congratulations on being a PADI dive professional already at the PADI dive master level. If you have come this far you’ll know the sense of achievement you get from this level and if you have worked in the dive industry already then you’ll know how rewarding this is also.

As a divemaster (from any dive certifying agency) you’ll know that you can be of assistance to dive instructors, lead tours, assist in the shop and help with diving academics etc. The next stage to make you very employable is obviously the OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor) level – allowing you to perform many additional dive duties and hence being more desirable to a dive employer.

You can take an IDC anywhere that is an IDC center – you’ll be trained over a 2 week period in instruction and then let loose to find work. You’ll be able to find dive centers aplenty that will offer this. We however do not like to work this way. We have gained through hard work and dedication to the dive training that our internship academy gives a great reputation for producing highly employable dive professionals. Attending Mermaids (LIA – Jomtien – Thailand) dive training academy is like attending Harvard, Cambridge or Oxford within the dive industry – we have earned this reputation very well indeed through our PADI CDC (Career Development Center) status and special internships.

If you are a divemaster and wish to upgrade to instructor then we have a great pro-dive package that interns you as a DM through to instructor over a 3 month period. (This time can be reduced on request). The training will allow you to be the very best instructor with all of the following included within the package:

3 months accommodation – Comfortable hotel style accommodation

Unlimited diving. (Usually netting 80+ dives).

ALL Manuals for the IDC i.e. the Instructor Manual, work books and business of diving material – to keep.

ALL Fees to PADI paid for the IDC and the IE.

IDC Preparation course.

AI (Assistant Instructor) course.

IE – Instructor Examination and OWSI certification.

5 PADI Instructor Specialty Courses:

PADI Enriched Air Instructor

PADI Night Dive Instructor

PADI Deep Dive Instructor

PADI Wreck Diver Instructor

PADI Multi-Level Diver Instructor

PADI EFRI (Emergency First Response Instructor) rating. (Including Instructor manual and fees)

EFR CFC – Care for Children (Including manual – As standard with all Mermaids Pro-packages).

DAN (Divers Alert Network) – 02 Oxygen First Aid for Diving Accidents. (As standard with all Mermaids Pro-packages)

International Dive Job placements service. Mermaids 4 year exclusive Partnership with Diversjobs.com allows the strongest and most successful diver job program on the market. Allow yourself the very best opportunity to enter the scuba diving industry. (After all you are training to become scuba employable right?).

Visa assistance.

Transfer from Bangkok Airport to Mermaids.

The most fun and adventure that you have in a lifetime! Check the photos for a little of our history, trips and experience – we are not a fly by night stating that we have great experience – we REALLY do!

PADI MSDT + PADI Staff Instructor Internships

Mermaid’s CDC Dive Center Pattaya, was operated since the late 80′s to 2006 by the late Stephen Blumenthal – once the worlds’ youngest PADI Course Director. Steve knew the importance of continued education to be successful. With an IDC (Instructor Development Course) and IE (instructor Examination) monthly it is a great place to further qualifications conveniently.

To be trained as a PADI diving instructor is superb and if your training was through a dive internship, certainly one of ours then you will find your dive skills and knowledge very well honed ready for a dive career.

Some new dive professionals would rather have some experience behind them for confidence prior to approaching possible dive employers for scuba work. They have the scuba diving instructor license but now they feel that they are at the bottom of the list of instructors out there as have yet to teach a dive course. This is not always the case as many of the new diving instructors can be more focused on everything in front of them that they need to teach. Many new dive instructors with no experience will blow you away as their control and knowledge is all 100% fresh and they are really trying to prove something to both themselves and the dive students.

Whilst it is true that you can get to work directly from the internship with confidence some do prefer to have real life dive teaching experience under their belts. Please note that the Resort Operations Specialist (ROS) can be added to either the MSDT or the STAFF packages.

Mermaid’s use the superb PADI system and have the PADI MSDT (Master Scuba Diver Trainer) Starter program, the MSDT Diving Life Internship and the Staff instructor programs as internships – please see below:

All of the programs can be upgraded to the next level at no additional charge.

The “Diving Life” Specialty Instructor (MSDT Starter) Package

PADI Instructors enrolling in this option will receive a CD-ROM including 23 PADI Specialty Instructor outlines. Instructors will present lectures to a PADI Specialty Instructor Trainer and field questions pertaining to those Specialties. The course is designed to prepare you to teach at least 5 PADI Specialty Courses of your choice (extra specialty ratings may be available on request for a small fee).

Some goals you will accomplish:

Present Specialty Course lectures to a PADI Course Director (Specialty IT), and discuss standards and marketing for 5 PADI Specialty Diver Courses.

Achieve 5 PADI Specialty Instructor ratings of your choice.

Includes: PADI Fees for 5 Specialty Instructor Courses and 5 Specialty Instructor Course Outlines.

The PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Certification

The PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating is awarded to a PADI diving instructor that can teach a minimum of 5 PADI specialty courses and has experience in teaching 25 students dive courses. To hold this diver qualification demonstrates to a dive employer that you have good experience in teaching diving and also can teach a range of specialty diver courses. This makes a dive center more likely to offer you a dive job.

If you are looking at entering the realm of technical dive instruction then the MSDT will be useful. Many technical agencies require the certification level for MSDT to be achieved prior to a technical instructor level being held. DSAT require you to be an MSDT if looking at becoming an instructor in DSAT Tec Deep or the DSAT Tri-mix courses. Technical dive jobs require the MSDT rating.

The “Diving Life” MSDT Internship – PADI Instructors enrolling in this option will be taken on as part of the Mermaids Dive Center staff for a period of 2 months after the IE and post-IE courses have been completed. During this time you will have access to all the benefits of a member of Mermaid’s instructor team. Some goals you will be able to accomplish:

Record at least 25 PADI teaching certifications.

Achieve 5 PADI Specialty Instructor ratings.

MSDT or Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification in FULL.

80++ dives for experience and pleasure (un-limited).

Add 2 month’s diving work experience at a PADI Five Star CDC to your CV.

Includes: 2 month lodgings, 5 PADI Specialty Instructor Outlines and ALL PADI Fees.

The PADI Staff Instructor Certification

PADI IDC Staff Instructors are PADI Instructors moving towards instructor-level training or teaching the Instructor Development Course (IDC). IDC Staff Instructors can independently train and certify PADI Assistant Instructors as well as help train PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors. At this level you are beginning to direct instructors how to instruct.

The “Diving Life” IDC Staff Internship / Traineeship. PADI Instructors enrolling in this program will be taken on as part of the Mermaid’s Staff for a period of 3 months after the IE and post-IE courses have been completed. During this time you will have access to all the benefits of a member Mermaid’s instructor team. Some goals you will be able to accomplish:

Record at least 25 PADI Certifications.

Achieve 5 PADI Specialty Instructor ratings.

Achieve the PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) rating. (as above).

Achieve the PADI IDC Staff rating.

120++ dives for experience and pleasure (un-limited).

Add 3 month’s scuba work experience at a PADI Five Star CDC to your diving CV.

Includes: 3 months lodgings, 5 PADI Specialty Instructor Outlines, PADI C/W and O/W Evaluation Slates and all PADI Fees for Specialties, MSDT and IDC Staff ratings.

Notes:

Internship Fees must be paid in full before the start of the PADI IDC.

Interns are working on a non-salaried, work for experience, basis ONLY.

The next Professional diver level is the PADI Master Instructor rating.

“Diving Life” Internship – Value Added Packages

Gold & Platinum Packages

The “Diving Life” internships that we offer from PADI Master Scuba Diver (MSD), PADI Divemaster (DM) or the FULL Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor (OWSI) have proven to be extremely popular and great value for money. After the professional education traineeships, interns go off to work or stay on for additional dives and experience. Some interns stay for the MSDT and/or STAFF dive internships after. This is not imperative but many feel that the additional experience will set them apart from the rest.

Due to this very reason, Learn-in-Asia Scuba Diving Academy is now pleased to introduce two value added packages that are a “bolt-on” to any of the internships. Both packages can be added to any of the “diving life” internships. Only the Platinum package requires some additional time and hence an additional months accommodation is included within the price. The Platinum Scuba Dive Professional Traineeship Program coupled with the Scuba Diving Professional Instructor Internship is the most comprehensive recreational and technical dive education package on the market offered by any scuba diving training facility.

Approx 40 days of training.

The Full-Face Mask Diving Course – (Diver to diver and diver to surface communications)

Used as common practice by the military, safety divers and commercial divers underwater communication devices are now spilling over into recreational diving. The coms. equipment is still not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but is becoming more common place.

The AGA Divator mask manufactured by Inperspiro as used in the FFM course. This mask is the same item of equipment used by the military / fire / police / search & rescue teams world wide, and features built in 2 way single sideband radio communication gear operated by a simple ‘push to talk’ button located on the front of the mouthpiece. Communication with both another diver and the surface can be established.

The course is 2 days in length and the successful student will receive the PADI Full Face Mask diver certification.

DSAT Tec Deep Diver Course

Diving deep has it’s rewards in seeing things that few people see. Wrecks and fantastic marine creatures lie below the usual confine of recreational divers’ depths and by being trained to safely dive to these levels will expose all of these to you.

Having the training to be secure, responsible and safe at those depths increases your confidence and skills at shallower limits.

Scuba diving deep to 50 Meters does not allow you to exit the water by direct means to the surface. There are structured procedures that need to be adhered to in order to “off-gas” safely. Safety procedures include “staged” decompression stops and “gas switches” as you near the surface. The DSAT Tec Deep diver course will arm you with the skills and knowledge to perform all of the required procedures safely and maturely.

Course Objective:

The Deep Tec Diver course is intended for those divers with the prerequisite experience and training needed to dive outside of the usual recreational scuba limits.

Successful completion of the Deep Tech Training will allow the diver to:

Conduct a gas-switch, extended no-stop dives; decompression stop dives and accelerated decompression stop dives using air, enriched air (nitrox) and 100% oxygen, to 50 Meters using technical diving equipment and procedures to manage the risks involved.

Use learned motor skills required for technical diving.

Understand the hazards and risks involved with the above types of technical diving, as well as the limits of training received in the course. Never dived beyond the limits of the training.

Prepare for and respond to reasonably foreseeable emergencies that may occur in this type of technical diving. Being prepared is 99% of the solution to a dive problem.

To provide the foundational skills for further training in technical diving.

Course Prerequisites:

Minimum age: 18 years.

Certified as a PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent).

Certified as a PADI Enriched Air Diver (or equivalent).

Certified as a PADI Deep Diver (or equivalent).

Have a minimum of 100 logged dives including:

20 Dives made with Nitrox.

25 Dives below 18 meters/60 feet.

15 Dives below 30 meters/100ft.

The Course includes:

The Tec Deep Diver manual, ALL instruction, equipment and gasses, and 12 training dives.

Advanced TRI-MIX Diver Course

The Advanced Tri-Mix course provides the training required to competently and safely breathe gases containing helium for dives that require staged decompression. You’ll become skilled in use of Nitrox and oxygen mixtures in decompression dives to a maximum depth of 75 Meters.

The objective of the Advanced trimix diver course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards and proper procedures of utilizing custom oxygen / helium / nitrogen mixtures as breathing gases.

Course Pre-Requisites:

Minimum age of 18 years Minimum certification as Extended Range Diver or Entry Level Tri-Mix Diver (or equivalent). Minimum of 150 logged dives. 35 logged dives must be deeper than 30 Meters or equivalent at the discretion of the participating instructor.

Course Requirements:

One full day of academics learning the dive planning and gas theory. 4 Open water decompression dives with an accumulated dive bottom time of 100 minutes. 2 of the class dives must be to a depth greater that 40 Meters.

The Dive Course includes:

All manuals, certification fees, gas, boat fees and required equipment and instruction is included within the cost of the internship.

Draeger Dolphin Re-breather Diver Course

The Re-breather is unlike open circuit scuba where the diver breathes out and his bubbles float directly to the surface betraying his position. Using a rebreather, the expired air is ‘scrubbed’ of carbon dioxide waste gas from the body, new oxygen is added, and the diver breathes his own air again, with little or no bubbles leaving the unit.

The ‘no bubbles’ aspect of the rebreather has made it the diving equipment of choice for military and special forces divers for decades. Current military models offer multi-hour durations and have performance specified to as deep as 300meters/1000ft depth.

The ‘no bubbles’ aspect is also extremely appealing and popular with underwater photographers that try to get as close to their intended subject as possible. A re-breather makes this much more possible as you can approach soundless. Additionally gas use in rebreather is extremely efficient allowing these very long dives to be accomplished using tiny tanks.

The Draeger dolphin rebreather was the first rebreather to be released for civilian use and has been around for about 10 years. It’s popular with photographers, or any divers who want to get right up close to fish without their own bubbles scaring the fish away.

Re-breather training dives are conducted to a maximum depth of 30 meters. Dive students are taught the theory behind rebreather design, usage and essential pre-dive checks, before going on to complete 3 Open Water dives.
